Egypt Speed challenge Championship - 2009
Under the slogan (Be Smart - Drive Safe) with in two days, between 13-14 February 2009, Ghibli Raceway International Karting track in Sharm El-Sheikh hosted the first round of Egypt Speed Challenge 2009, which was attended by 54 of the best speed races in Egypt, where it was their cars, following the classification of the participant into several categories as follows:
- The category of cars less than the record 1300 cc
- The category of standard cars 1300: 1600 cc
- The category of standard cars 1600: 2000 cc
- The category of standard over 2000 cc
- The category of Modified cars
- The category of cars rear-wheel drive
Of guidance, after the main regulations and laws governing the speed of international races by the International Federation of Motor Sport (FIA), has brought the Championship under the auspices of Rear Admiral / Mohamed Hany Metwally - governor of South Sinai, the Egyptian Federation for Motor Sports - one of the National Council of Sport - and under the supervision of Automobile & Touring Club of Egypt (the representative of the FIA in Egypt) and the support of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and the Egyptian Tourism Authority , and sponsored by TROPICANA hotels and Resorts.... And the organized by Ghibli Raceway the International Racer / Nader ELKhayyat ..

Friday 13/2/2009:
All Drivers went to Ghibli Raceway in the early morning - after spending a wonderful night in the arms of the ring at the welcome reception which was organized specially for them, as well as the sponsors, media representatives and VIPs – a briefing had presented about the general laws and regulations of the championship on the track followed by the official registration of the competitors , then going to the (Park Ferme ') which started with mechanical check throughout Advanced Technology & Environment Company (ATEC), which contributed in turn to raise awareness with top Mechanical for all the contestants how to care and the technical preparation of the cars ...
This was followed by the free practice period for all competitors, where each Driver complete 2 full laps of the circuit (with a length of 1350 m each and 8 m. width ) , for the train on the course of the race and to study the speed and braking points and race line as well.
A very recognized times had achieved by Haitham Samir with his Honda Civic (Type R, which had raised up it's capacity to 2000 cc) also Khalid Imam, who was part of his Mitsubishi (Evo. 10) the latest generation of the Mitsubishi EVO's, also Mohamed Hamdi (Misho) review with the most fantastic race cars (Porsche 911 – twin Turbo ), which has proved a skilled driver with the equivalent force and thundering ... At the same time, some competitors who preferred to participate in free practice style review, regardless of the interest in the registration times show the real speed as the Amr Sayed - Member of the Tropicana Team with his BMW (M3) Compact, which is the same for Yasser El Shami - Tropicana team also, who also took part with his car, the Seat Ibiza GTI.
After the end of the free practice , all drivers were presented in a parade - can only be described as something closer to a dream to the reality - in terms of the Review of this parade along the Road of peace from the circuit (GhibliRaceway) towards the old market in Sharm El-Sheikh in the most powerful image of the Declaration Event and promotion of motor sport on the land of peace, the land of Egypt, the march re-entry into the corridors of the Neama Bay which has commercial unexpected scene for all the crowds regrouped on both sides of the road for the follow-up this event.
Saturday 14/2/2009:
After the morning briefing, all vehicles entered the closed position (Park Ferme') with hearts sticker of the Valentine's Day, expressing the day spirit ..
Every one got ready for the official first race heat , which witnessed great competition in each category .. followed by Track drivers parade to entertain audience and driver and to have a recorded photos
and to invite every driver to sign on the official poster for the championships, as well as for the celebration of the first Drivers team of Tropicana Hotels and Resorts – the main partner of the championship - .
Second Heat, which witness more adrenaline and competition among all competitors, although it has seen some withdrawals from the race to some mechanical problems surprise was led by the Mohammad Mehanna, with the his famous car (BMW 335) Lambo. doors, as well as the Mohammed Izz al-Din with his Honda Civic Coupe, and Mohamed Hamdi (Misho) who faced some mechanical problems in the his Porsche 911 Twin Turbo – Gear Box …but the experience of a working group of (ATEC) have contributed in putting him back on the track.
At the end of the race many Ezzat Saleh - No. 7 - with his Suzuki Swift GTI achieveed the 1st. position of the category (under the 1300 cc) with a time of 1:36.9 min., followed by a second Nasser El Fayoumi with a similar car No. 23, and the Third was the Libyan Driver Ayoub Alqublawey with his Peugeot 206 No. 39.
The category of ( 1300 - 1600 cc ) have been leaded by Ahmed Al Wakil with his Peugeot 106 (GTI) No. 24 with a time of 1:33:5 min., followed by 2n.d posiyon Haitham Belal - team Tropicana - Driving Honda Civic, then No. 25 car the Alexandrian, Islam Abou Alazzm with his determination of the Civic Coupe, No. 17.
in the category of ( 1600 - 2000 cc) Yasser Shami - Tropicana team – win the title with his SEAT Ibiza GTI No. 12 at time of 1:33.1 min., followed by a second Tamer Bashat No. 2, then the third Asser Magdy No. 4 with Seat Ibiza GTI.
Category of (over 2000 cc) has been made for Khalid Imam - No. 28 with his Mitsubishi Lancer (Evo 10) with a time of 1:27.4 minutes, which accompanied win the title of over all of the first round (Egypt Speed challenge), followed by Mohamed Hamdi No. 49 with his car - Porsche 911 Twin Turbo – as 2nd in the category with time of 1:29.2 min. (loosing the round title after exceeding his time with 2 second penalty ), Mohamed Mamdouh No. 19 came in the third place of the category.
The rear-wheel drive category was leaded by Karim Saoud car No. 37 ( BMW M3 Compact) with a time was 1:33.0 min., followed by Mohammad Ashraf on hisPorsche Boxter No. 38, and for the same category Mohamed Abdel-Sattar, car No. 22 win third place with the BMW M3.
Within the category of modified cars , Haitham Samir achieve a best time with his Honda Civic Type R No. 20 which was 1:29.2 min. and also the 2nd position over all, followed by Sheikh Sharif Car No. 27 in the second position in the same category and third was medhat Ramadan Car No. 33 Daihatsu Mira Turbo.
The awards ceremony followed by a press conference organized at the main partner (TROPICANA Hotels and Resorts) – Tropicana Grand Azure Hotel - where the media has to honor the winners of the first three over all of the championship, as well as all the participants of the Sponsors and media, addressing the conference this year to assess the events of the first round of (Egypt Speed Challenge), as well as ways to strengthen and the growth of motor sport in Egypt, so that access to the ranks of Middle Eastern events and global as well as raising the level of leadership and the level of their competitors in terms of awareness and technical backgrounds.
